Medan
City
The
name given for a site; an area where vicious
battles were fought amongst different races
from different villages. That period in history
has lapsed.
Medan
today is capital North Sumatra, and is the 3rd
largest city in Indonesia. Its international
airport Polonia is the third busiest after Jakarta
and Bali. As Sumatra's international gateway,
Medan is the centre of commerce and administration
of approximately one million people. With an
important harbour, trade infrastucture, modern
accomodation and transportation to all major
tourist and business destinations, it is a growing
metropolis of the far east with vast potentials.
Historic
remnants of Medan include the Palace of the
Sultans of Deli and the Masjid Raya (Grand Mosque).
Both have been restored to their past grandeur;
a monumental reminder of times past. A tour
around Medan brings back memories of early Dutch
settlers, who bought about the development of
Deli Tobacco estates.
Medan
is also the transit point to other places of
interest like Lake Toba, Si-piso piso waterfalls,
Orang-utan nature reserves and crocodile farms.
Hotel
Danau Toba International Medan is situated ideally
in the heart of the city, with access to the
airport (10 minutes) shopping centres, banks
and government and trade offices.
